Propeller Shaft Clutch Operation Panel

Local control panel for twin-propeller LNG carrier clutch operation

LNG carriers are typically equipped with two main engines and two propeller shafts, each shaft fitted with a clutch unit. When one engine or propeller shaft fails, the corresponding clutch can be disengaged to isolate the affected unit and re-engaged after the issue is corrected.

Upon request from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), JangWon SM Co., Ltd. developed the Propeller Shaft Clutch Operation Panel (PSCOP), a local control panel installed in the engine room near each starboard and port clutch assembly. System indications and alarm statuses are transmitted to the Integrated Automation System (IAS) for monitoring and display within the IAS interface.

The PSCOP utilizes conventional relay logic, and clutch actuation is achieved via hydraulic solenoid valves controlled by push buttons on the local panel.
